Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - why all the hype.
Since Royce Gracie won the first ever UFC event the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has sky rocketed in popularity. Celebrity participants include Mark Zuckerberg, Tom Hardy, Jonah Hill, Bixente Lizarazu and even South Shields own Chris Ramsay who all train regularly in the gentle art. Identified as the single most effective martial art for fighting, Jiu Jitsu emphasises the use of leverage, skill and strategy against an opponent. An effective way of fighting without the requirement for athleticism. That’s why so many people are choosing Jiu Jitsu over other self defence options like Krav Maga & Karate or Kung Fu. Jiu Jitsu is a huge part of modern Mixed Martial Arts and local Jiu Jitsu tournaments are replacing Sunday League Football in terms of participation for adults to scratch their competitive itch. The fact is many people start Jiu Jitsu with no idea of tournaments and most won’t have a clue who Gordon Ryan is, they start because they want a new hobby, a way of keeping fit and for many an introduction to new friends something you’ll find plenty of on the mat. If your looking for a new hobby, a way to spend a few hours out the house as a break from your wife and kids which isn’t going to the pub, then try Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. You’ll find a club and great coaching in most towns or city’s and many will offer a free trial so you can see what the fuss is about. #sbg #sbgsouthshields #southshields #mma #bjj #wrestling #boxing #kickboxing #jiujitsu #fighting #ufc #gym #fitness #sunderland #newcastle #northeast #bjjlife #training #workout

At SBG South Shields we offer Brazilian Jiu Jitsu that transcends environments, body types, age and gender. It’s important that we offer the fundamentals as we look to increase the effectiveness for each of our members/students in a fight or competition. We don’t encourage kids to pull guard, although this increases the chances of winning a match and getting on a podium we prioritise takedowns and trips. It’s important our children have skills for competition that will also aid them in conflict as often a child will not be able to distinguish the difference. Proctor also won the Advanced NoGi Division for under 210lbs, the Cage Warriors welter weight fighter has 10 wins in Mixed Martial Arts by submission.
