MMA
Over the past twenty years there hasn't been a sport that has gained as much attention or popularity as MMA, it is the most pure form of combat with a large number of variables to prepare for. That's why finding a good gym is important, when you step into the cage you want to know your ready.
MMA fighters used to combine a variety of styles to round their skill set, however times have changed and athletes now must have an understanding of one complete style that offers understanding of both offence and defence in all ranges of combat.
When it comes to fighting it's important to know that your practicing what works. Despite less than 20% of our members being active MMA fighters we think it's important to provide an environment where all of our members are encouraged to improve their skill in combat as some make the choice to step in the cage!

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
At SBG South Shields we offer a fundamental approach to Jiu Jitsu teaching concepts and technique useful in all environments including MMA fights, Submission Grappling and Self Defence. BJJ is a grappling art without any striking, techniques from both Judo and Wrestling frequently cross over into our training, this class features no striking of any kind.
Unlike many more traditional arts and other forms of Jiu Jitsu training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is "alive" and practice against resistance makes up a lot of our training this is done via drills, isolationand sparring also know as Rolling.
During rounds of "rolling" you will grapple with a partner trying to use efficient technique to control and submit them.
We offer both Gi & NoGi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but recommend you train both!

Kickboxing
At SBG South Shields we offer functional training in Kickboxing for Fun, Fitness & Fighting.
Our Kickboxing/ MMA Striking classes don’t include any grappling and focus on the best of Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai & Karate combined to make a effective striking curriculum that works in all environments including Mixed Martial Arts & Self Defence.
